Top Five Rammstein Videos, My Faves At Least

Updated on December 25, 2012

If you aren't a Rammstein fan, or if you have never even heard of them or their music, this is a perfect opportunity to get acquainted with them. I've decided to make a top five video list, rather than a top five song list (these lists are different), because seeing the band is just as important as hearing their music in this case.

I'll be honest. I was a "fan" for about two years before I even knew what they looked like or what any of the songs meant. So, in an effort to help others avoid that terrible mistake, I offer you my top five favorite videos.

No.5: Benzin

I love this video because it shows the guys in what I think would be a very natural state for them. They're all just hanging out, chillin', then oh crap! The alarm goes off. Then the utter destruction they leave in their wake just to go put out a fire is so typical Rammstein.

I really like this song, too. I mentioned earlier how my top five video list differs from my top five song list. While Benzin might not make it onto my top five song list, it's definitely top ten. Benzin means petrol, by the way, or what we here in the States know as gasoline. The lyrics are definitely worth looking up. I'll just say this, Till admits to masturbating in this song, which I think is awesome.

A fun fact, by the way. Till is a pyromaniac, well, a pyrotech, at least. Fire fascinates him and if you have ever been to a Rammstein show, you would not doubt that. Till also enjoys pain, so getting burned is just icing on the cake.

No.4: Ich Tu Dir Weh

Now here is an awesome video. Ich Tu Dir Weh translates to "I hurt you." The song is awesome but the video is just superb. First of all, they are all painted silver. Excellent. Next, Till's mouth lights up when he speaks. How? Well, he could have just had them run a flesh colored wire into his mouth and edited out any visible traces of it for the same effect, but Till, lover of pain that he is, insisted that a hole be drilled into his cheek. Don't believe me? Look it up.

Anyway, this song is great but the video really makes it for me. I love watching it just for the light in his mouth. I think it's an awesome effect.

No.3: Du Haust

Du Haust translates to "you have." This is one of the more popular Rammstein songs. Dare I even call it mainstream--which is why for the longest time I didn't like this song. Don't get me wrong, I loved it at first but it's one of those songs that after a while, you get sick of. Then I looked up the lyrics. I highly recommend everyone to do the same or you will be missing out.

But what really sold me on this song was the video. It has such a "Reservoir Dogs" edge to it and I absolutely love Till in this one. The masks are a little creepy, but definitely work. Needless to say, now that I know what the song is talking about and have seen the video, this song is amongst my faves once again, mainstream or not.

No.2: Mein Teil

It was a close call for this one. It's almost my number one choice. I had a really hard time deciding between this one and my most favorite Rammstein video of all. Many might disagree with me.

This song is also one of my top five favorites. The song, the lyrics, the whole story behind this song is so unbelievably amazing there is really not much that I don't like about it. In a separate article, I go into detail about this song. You can find that article here.

Some fun facts about the making of this video: all six members of the group were filmed separately and neither of them knew what the other was doing until it was all done. (except for the mud wresting scene and the walking the dogs scene.) Also, Till insisted on being slapped like that. Once again, the man loves pain. And Christoph, who is dressed like the woman in this video, is supposed to be Armin's mother, I believe. If you don't know who Armin is, read my article where I explain. If you're still not curious, Mein Teil translates to "my part," or more colloquially, "my cock."

No.1: Ich Will

So, this is my absolute most favorite Rammstein video of all time. Why? Look up the lyrics, then watch the video. It's powerful stuff. Even if you don't have a clue as to what they are saying, you can tell by the video that they are after recognition, not money.

Some side tidbits about this video: each of them has some sort of impediment, which symbolizes their outcast status among society, Till, with his club foot, is supposed to represent Satan. I find that awesome. Anyway, notice how it is the media, and not bullets, that shoot them down. Once again, powerful stuff.

So this concludes my top five list of Rammstein videos. There is one other video that is worthy of at least a mention, but it is not a typical Rammstein video. I am an anime fan, so when I saw this AMV, I flipped because it combines a favorite anime of mine and a favorite Rammstein song so perfectly. I love the role reversal in this one. Now, Rammstein does have an official video for this song, Engel, which looks very similar to the Salma Hayek scene in "From Dusk Til Dawn," with the python, but I like this one better. I'll post it below. Enjoy.

Engel: An Evangelion AMV
